Ilm ul Isnad as Attribute of Muslim Ummah and its Significance in the Current Scenario

Abstract

‘Ilm-ul-Isnād is the hallmark of the Mu╒ammadan Ummah. Muslims can rightly be proud of it and tell the nations of the world how much they love their Prophet (peace and blessings of All┐h be upon him). In order to preserve the words and deeds of Prophet (Peace be Upon Him) along with his whole attire of life has been created through ‘Ilm-ul-Isnād and biography of interpreter of Aḥādīth. The importance and need of this knowledge is acknowledged since the beginning. Many great scholars have regarded ‘Ilm-ul-Isnād not only as part of religion but also considered it as one of the foundations of religion. Denial of Aḥadīth is the result of ignorance and carelessness towards ‘Ilm-ul-Isnād. The process of spreading Aḥādīth on social media without Sanad can be stopped through Sanad. There is the need of the hour that ‘Ilm-ul-Isnād should be taught in Islamic Educational Institutions as a subject.
